Travel for the Holidays

We all look forward to the idea of travelling at anytime of the year, but there is something special about travelling during the holidays. In this post, we will be sharing some facts and insights into what makes a holiday one to remember.

There are many destinations that you can choose from when travelling at Christmas time. This list covers some of the best domestic places to visit during this time of year: New York City and Washington D.C.

New York City at Christmastime

If you have the opportunity to visit New York City during the holidays, you will not be disappointed.  The city is full of excitement and energy, beautifully drenched in holiday splendor.  In 1931 the tradition of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree began and for more than eight decades, it has continued to delight visitors.  The tree is adorned with lights and proudly on display near the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center.  While visiting, be sure to skate the rink featured in films such as Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

The Top of the Rock is also a must visit while at Rockefeller Center for the holidays.  Enjoy sweeping views of Central Park and Manhattan’s midtown and downtown skyscrapers from the observation deck.  The Empire State Building is also a spot to visit in NYC.  The world famous tower lights atop the building lit up red and green for holiday cheer.  Don’t forget all the terrific broadway shows, restaurants and shopping that accompany this fantastic city that never sleeps.

Washington DC for the Holidays

If you are planning a trip to our capital Washington DC during the holidays there will surely be much to see and do.  Many events and tours in the capital city are free and this is a fantastic option for families to experience. The National Christmas Tree is on display in President’s Park near the White House. Each year, a massive, live evergreen tree that grows out of the ground is decorated and lit during a ceremony by the President.  The tree is decorated with ornaments created by artists across the country.

Washington DC has its own skating rink experience. The National Gallery Of Art’s Sculpture Garden ice rink is a fountain turned ice rink throughout the winter.  It is open for skating from November through mid March.  City Center DC is especially festive during the holidays.  You can wander around this shopping and dining mega complex to find ice sculptures, string lights, and 25-foot-tall reindeer and enjoy live music by the Washington Chorus.

Wherever you decide to spend your holidays, New York City and Washington DC should be able to please the biggest holiday lovers dreams.
